BeepEnKeypad/action beep tonesOFF / ONONDisabling saves a small amount of battery.
RogerRoger beep — tone played at end of transmissionOff / Roger / MDCOffRoger: simple beep. MDC: MDC1200-style burst. Heard by the other party.
VOXVoice-operated transmit — activates PTT automatically when microphone audio is detectedOFF / 1–9OFFHigher numbers = less sensitive (requires louder audio). See Transmission Guide.
VoxDlyVOX tail delay — how long TX stays active after voice drops0.5s / 1s / 2s0.5sPrevents rapid PTT cycling when speaking in bursts.
CompndCompander — audio compressor/expander for improved intelligibility on narrow channelsOFF / TX / RX / BothOFFBoth ends must use compatible compander settings. Per-channel setting.

TX Settings

Menu ItemWhat it doesOptionsDefaultNotes
TxPwrTransmit power levelLOW / MID / HIGHHIGHCan also be toggled quickly with F+6. LOW ~0.5W, MID ~2W, HIGH ~5W (approx).
TxDirRepeater offset direction+ / − / ± / OFFOFF+ adds offset to RX frequency for TX. − subtracts. ± is cross-band/split.
TxOffsRepeater offset amount in MHz0.000–69.990 MHz (100 Hz steps)0.000Standard VHF offset is 0.600 MHz. Standard UHF offset is 5.000 MHz.
TxCodeTransmit CTCSS/DCS tone or codeOFF / CTCSS 67.0–254.1 Hz / DCS codesOFFTone transmitted continuously during PTT. Required by many repeaters.
RxCodeReceive CTCSS/DCS code filter — squelch opens only on matching toneOFF / CTCSS / DCS codesOFFPrevents unwanted audio from signals without your tone. OFF = open squelch.
FreqVFO frequency — enter frequency directlyFrequency in MHzSame as typing frequency on keypad.
TxBandRestrict TX to a specific bandVHF / UHF / BothBothHardware limits: VHF (136–174 MHz), UHF (400–470 MHz).
BCLBusy Channel Lockout — prevent TX when a signal is present on the receive frequencyOFF / ONOFFPrevents stepping on ongoing QSOs.
TxTOutTX timeout timer — automatically ends TX after specified timeOFF / 30s / 1–10 min3minPrevents accidentally holding the channel open. Required on some repeaters.
PTT_IDDTMF ID transmitted at start or end of PTT pressOFF / Begin / End / BothOFFID string is set by the ANI ID menu item.
ANI_IDANI (automatic number identification) DTMF string sent as PTT IDUp to 8 DTMF digitsUsed with PTT_ID. Typically your radio number or call sign in DTMF.
STESquelch tail elimination — brief tone burst at end of TX to suppress squelch tail on receive endOFF / ONOFFHeard as a short burst or 'chirp' at the end of your transmission.
RP_STERepeater squelch tail elimination — suppress squelch tail from repeaterOFF / 1–10OFFSends a signal to the repeater to drop its TX squelch tail. Value is burst count.
1750Hz1750 Hz tone burst for European CTCSS-access repeatersOFF / ONOFFIf enabled, pressing F+PTT sends a 1750 Hz tone to access European-style repeaters.

DTMF Settings

Menu ItemWhat it doesOptionsDefaultNotes
D_STDTMF side tone — hear your own DTMF tones in the speaker while transmittingOFF / ONOFFUseful for verifying DTMF tones during transmission.
